About Me
I am a passionate, dynamic, and student-focused teacher dedicated to helping you achieve your own goals for playing the violin or viola. Whether you are looking to introduce yourself or your child to the world of music-making, preparing for an audition, or anything in between, I bring many years of experience as both a player and a pedagogue to help you on your musical journey.
My Expertise
I am one of the world’s foremost researchers and practitioners of a style of playing utilized by many of the greatest violinists of the past 150 years, from Jascha Heifetz and Nathan Milstein to Leonidas Kavakos and Ray Chen. It combines simplicity of execution and sound (pun intended) ergonomics and biomechanics with the maximum potential for tone production. If you struggle with mastering advanced bow techniques, unreliable intonation, or suffer from playing-related pain, I highly encourage you to contact me.
My Experience
I hold music degrees from Utah Valley University, the University of Utah, and Indiana University. In addition to having worked with several world-class teachers and performing a wide variety of solo and chamber music repertoire, my doctoral dissertation spanned several thousand pages and utilized myriad pedagogical resources that have largely never been seen in the West, providing unique solutions to many issues common to violin and viola playing, such as intonation, shifting, bow technique, practice strategies, and public performance. In addition to teaching privately, I currently teach violin and viola at Utah Valley University.
